Overview

The Qamanirjuaq caribou herd numbers approximately 500,000. Hunting with the use of an ATV, a mobile guide and hunter can always find caribou.

Rifle hunters have maintained a 100% harvest success on Central Canada barren-ground caribou. Bow hunters do well because of the landscape consisting of ravines and gullies. With the ATV's at your disposal, hunters can get ahead of the caribou and plan a stalk to get within bow shooting range.

Hunts are carried out of the main camp with comfortable accommodations, running water, and home cooked meals. Whenever caribou are located at long distances from the main camp facilities, then drop camps with more basic features will be used.

The Hudson Bay lowlands around Arviat, Nunavut are home to ptarmigan, Arctic wolf and wolverine. The occasional (protected) barren-ground grizzly also occurs here.

Wolves and wolverine can be taken if encountered (a harvest fee will be charged). Fishing is also available for lake trout and Arctic grayling in some local lakes. The area is a major nesting ground for lesser snow geese. The season for ptarmigan and snow geese opens on September 1.
